New employees - saying hello, saying goodbye
Changes in working life rate among some of the
most stressful events a person can experience.
I've been running my own business for around 25
years, and in that time I've come up with a list
of "hello" and "goodbye" tips to help employees
with the start and end of their journey with an
employer. I believe that these tasks are simple
for employees to follow and can minimise stress.
In my experience, every employee has done some
of these but never had someone do them all 🙂
Happy to hear if I've missed any.
No boss is perfect, no employee is perfect. In
my experience, it's a good idea to have a
mentor/manager to be assigned and to have a good
system. (On the topic of a good system, SSW
built and use www.SugarLearning.com)
Saying hello:
Make it an upbeat entrance, rather than sliding
in under the radar. These are the things you can
do:
Tip #1: You're going to be
meeting a lot of people in rapid succession, and
it can be a struggle to remember so many new
names. I'd recommend you have a technique to
help remember everyone.
For example, as you meet new people, shake their
hands while saying their name. Then try to draw
yourself a map of the area and then write out
everyone's names based on where they're sitting
(similar
to what I recommend presenters do with a new
audience). In the first few days, try to
use their names in sentences a lot.

.NET User Group: Solving first world problems with .NET
Core and SignalR - presented Liam Elliott
SignalR has been around since 2013, offering real-time
push notifications for our websites. This year,
Microsoft gave us SignalR Core, combined all of the
features of SignalR with the benefits of .NET Core.
Join Liam as he walks you through how easy it is to
build a real-time web client in both Angular and React
using SignalR and .NET Core.

About the presenter
From cutting his teeth on a Commodore 64

Azure Functions for the Enterprise - presented by Thiago Passos
Most people think Azure Functions are only for a tiny bit of code. They will be
surprised! Why not build your whole application following best practices and
only expose the endpoints through functions? In this talk, I'll present a new
paradigm, a new way of thinking whilst still leveraging your existing knowledge.
|
|
|
About the presenter
Thiago Passos joined SSW in 2014 as a Senior Software Architect.
He's specialized in SharePoint and .NET, preferring C#.NET over
VB.NET, working on windows and web applications, including some
distributed applications and web services.

Zendesk’s primary Australian implementation partner
Most organisations start off using a simple email inbox for
support queries, and have a phone number for more complex issues

contact you by phone, email, social media, SMS, etc., and have
the conversation continue seamlessly, regardless of who may take
on the support request. As your organisation scales, this
becomes a challenge... enter
